Kansas Deaf-Blind Fund
The Kansas Deaf-Blind Fund is specifically for students who have combined hearing and vision losses (i.e., Deaf-Blind), including students with intensive and pervasive educational support needs. The nature of the concomitant sensory disabilities is such that specialized technological equipment, and program accommodations, often are required to provide necessary aids and supports that allow students access to general education and community environments. Additionally, consultation from experts in evidence-based practices, and/or evaluations may be necessary to implement evidence-based practices in the students’ educational settings.
Requests for the Kansas Deaf-Blind Funds are reviewed carefully. Approval for funding is granted when costs exceed the amount that districts are able to provide out of local and state categorical funds.
Students may receive up to $3,000 each fiscal year beginning April 1 – June 30 or until the fund is depleted. Applications are reviewed and approved for priority candidates from July 1 to December 31. After December 31, all applications are approved on a first come, first serve basis.
Funding is provided to students with intensive and pervasive needs who are not on the Kansas Deaf-Blind Census (i.e., Kansas Deaf-Blind Project) beginning January 1, if monies are available.
